Seasonal Considerations

Planning By Season

Nantucket offers a unique experience in each season. Here's what to expect throughout the year:

SUMMER (JUNE-AUGUST)

Peak season brings warm temperatures, beautiful beach days, and a full calendar of events. Reservations for ferries, restaurants, and activities should be made well in advance. All island services and businesses are operating at full capacity.

FALL (SEPTEMBER-NOVEMBER)

A magical time on Nantucket with warm days, cool evenings, and smaller crowds. The water remains warm for swimming into September. Fall brings harvest festivals, cranberry picking, and spectacular foliage. Many restaurants and shops remain open, particularly in early fall.

WINTER (DECEMBER-FEBRUARY)

Experience the peaceful, authentic side of island life. While many businesses reduce hours or close seasonally, winter offers cozy charm, holiday festivities, and the opportunity to explore Nantucket like a local. Ferry service continues year-round, though on a reduced schedule.

SPRING (MARCH-MAY)

Watch the island come alive with daffodils, flowering trees, and returning birds. Spring offers increasing activity as businesses reopen and the island prepares for summer. The annual Daffodil Festival in late April is a highlight of the season.
